We are excited to share with everyone a free book series, “K-12 Blended Teaching: A Guide to Practice Within the Disciplines.” Each book edition in the series focuses on blended teaching within a content discipline or grade level. For instance, one book edition in the series focuses entirely on blended teaching in the primary grades. Other book editions focus on secondary grades, each edition focusing on blended teaching in a specific content area. Currently we have published the following book editions: English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Additional editions will focus on World Languages, PE and Health, Music, and Family and Consumer Sciences. Each book edition is brimming with helpful examples and recommendations from practicing blended teachers. Specifically, the book editors interviewed nearly 30 teachers and created over 100 video examples that are included across the book series.

Most importantly, each book is based on a research-backed framework that identifies and classifies the following skills and knowledge required for blended teaching:
ONLINE INTEGRATION focuses on the teacher’s ability to make and implement decisions related to selecting when and how to effectively combine online and in-person learning as part of core instruction.
ONLINE INTERACTION focuses on the teacher’s ability to facilitate online interactions with and between students.
PERSONALIZING INSTRUCTION focuses on the teacher’s ability to implement a learning environment that allows student customization of learning goals, pacing, and/or path.
DATA PRACTICES focuses on the teacher’s ability to use digital tools to monitor student activity and performance in order to make informed choices about interventions to help all students progress.

The book series is also accompanied by the free Blended Teaching Readiness (BTR) survey. The survey was rigorously developed and statistically validated to measure the blended teaching competencies listed above as well as teacher dispositions towards blended teaching. The BTR survey can be a powerful tool for individual teachers as they self-assess their readiness for blended teaching, also for school administrators wishing to measure their teachers’ readiness for the blended environment. Using the survey as a diagnostic, teachers and administrators can better target professional learning efforts using the K-12 Blended Teaching book series.

In this session, participants will be provided with free resources designed to help them engage in discussions on how to best prepare for the blended learning environment using these and other resources.

Presenters for this session are Jered Borup, Nicole Sandrowicz, Bridgette Joskow and Christine McLaughlin
